Join the free Halloween fun at this family-friendly event

A monstrously good time is in store for kids and their families looking for Halloween fun in Kailua Town. Alexander & Baldwin presents “A Monster Mash-Up”, a free community event on Saturday, Oct. 27, 5-7pm in the Kailua Parking Garage (behind Longs).

Keiki can show off their creativity during the costume parade and take part in a host of other free activities, including gathering goodies from the Trunk-or-Treat fleet of decorated vehicles, picking out a free mini pumpkin from the pumpkin patch while supplies last, and cozying up to adorable Blue Monster and Green Monster for a selfie.

The event will also feature free games, make-n-take Halloween crafts and more.

Onstage, 93.9 The Beat’s Romeo Valentine will scare up fun and prize giveaways as DJ Mike Fiesta keeps the music playing for goblins, ghosts, princesses and pirates in the mood for dancing.

Even dogs can join the fun by asking their humans to sign them up for the pet costume contest, sponsored by Calvin + Susie and the Kailua Animal Clinic. Prizes will be awarded! For contest rules and information visit kailuatownhi.com.

Parking will be available at any of A&B’s retail locations in Kailua Town. For more event information, follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @KailuaTownHI or call 808-234-0404.

Kalama Beach Clean-up with A&B – Sunday, September 30

September 12, 2018

Alexander & Baldwin has partnered with Kailua Beach Adventures and Kailua Artist Leanna Wolff for a beach clean-up at Kalama Beach Park on Sunday, September 30th from 8:30am to 12pm.

All you need to do is bring yourself, family and friends, and a reusable water bottle, and together, we’ll sift through debris and collect microplastics that harm the ocean and marine life. This a great opportunity to get outside, give back to the community and connect with other community members.

Please RSVP on our Facebook page.

Kailua Onstage Arts presents The Wolves Aug. 31 – Sept. 9

August 28, 2018

Kailua Onstage Arts bursts onto the scene with THE WOLVES by Sarah DeLappe

August 31 – September 9; Friday, Saturday 7:30pm, Sunday 4pm

A 2017 Pulitzer Prize Finalist, Hawaii Premiere

Kailua Onstage Arts launches its inaugural season with the Hawaii Premiere of The Wolves by Sarah DeLappe. A 2017 Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, this highly acclaimed play explores the lives, hearts and minds of nine high school girls on an indoor soccer team.

The production is directed by Stacy Ray and runs from August 31 through September 9, 7:30pm Fri & Sat, 4pm Sun, 50 Kihapai St, in Kailua. Tickets range from $20-$30 and are on sale online at www.kailuaonstagearts.com.

Kailua Onstage Arts is a new, non-profit performing arts company based in downtown Kailua and dedicated to presenting works that give voice to the voiceless – those who have gone mostly unheard because of their race, gender, sexuality, geographic location, or economic condition.

KOA Artistic Director Kevin Keaveney was drawn to the play and chose it as the fledgling theater’s first production because “it’s unlike anything I’d ever seen onstage. Although it’s extremely specific to the lives of these teenage girls, it’s also a universally relatable portrayal of the human experience. Conversations and events stream by in a seemingly trivial flood of mundanity, but out of that rise eddies and currents of deep philosophy, pain, humor, giddy exhilaration, and the drive to win, to survive, to persist.”

The fictional soccer team of The Wolves is comprised of nine fiercely talented young actresses: Chelsea Cox, Alyse Glaser, Grace Grange, Lily Kim-Dela Cruz, Maggie Odom, Ruby O’Malley, Camille Perry, Kira Stone, and Ka’ena Watson. All have been pushed to new heights by the demands of the play. Director Stacy Ray reports, “The cast has become a pack: dependent on one another, protective of one another, supportive and challenging of one another.  Just like wolves in the wild – no weak links allowed – all are focused on the same goal, the strength and stability of the pack.”

Playwright Sarah DeLappe’s keen ear for dialogue reveals a world often overlooked or simplified by adult writers. The script “is 100% Teenage Girls,” says director Ray. “A constant thought exchange with no subject off limits. It will remind you that each moment of life is capable of great passion, joy, laughter, and love.”
